Balfolk Utrecht – Formidabal! met Vlier (NL), Trio Baftig (NL) en Celtic Constellation (NL)

Het jonge bloed van de Nederlandse Balfolk organiseert samen een bal om de lente te vieren. Maar liefst drie bands slaan hun handen ineen, dus verwacht naast sterren, vlierbloesem en duiven ook een gezellige potluck, stage-crashes en cross-over episodes!

VLIER

Gevoed door hun gekruiste ervaring in folkmuziek uit diverse hoeken van Europa zaait Vlier melodieën in de dansvloer die zich ontspruiten in woeste bourrées, lentewind-achtige cercles en bloesemige mazurka’s. Laurens Krah (voorheen van folkgroep Pyrolysis) heeft zijn accordeon ingeruild voor de sprankelende en opzwepende tonen van de Ierse bouzouki. Adriana Borger (ook bekend van Idun’s Apples), brengt mysterieuze drones, ritmische trompet snaren, en slingerende loopjes op haar draailier. Het muzikale bladerdek, Astrid van der Niet (ook bekend van Celtic Constellation), brengt rustmomenten met de stille tonen van de mandoline en laat takken ruisen met haar onstuimige vioolklanken. Samen ontkiemen de muzikanten vooral gloednieuwe melodieën, maar geven ze ook water aan nog springlevende traditionele tunes. Vlier laat de dansvloer opbloeien: zacht, wild en onvergetelijk.

TRIO BAFTIG

Zeg je Powerbal? Dan zeg je Baftig! Denk duiven, denk trad. Dansbare en opzwepende tunes met gitaar, viool, accordeon en zang, met een voorliefde voor gevogelte. Robin, Manon en Sebastiaan delen een passie voor alle soorten folkmuziek en volksdansen. Combineer dit met een boel enthousiasme en BOEM – Trio Baftig was geboren.

Sebastiaan West (ook bekend van Celtic Sparks) brengt o.a. accordeon en Ierse fluit naar de stage en is afgestudeerd aan CodArts Rotterdam als jazz pianist. Van hard-bob tot schotse trad, Sebastiaan heeft het in huis. Robin Tjiong schrijft, speelt én grooved op akkoestische gitaar (DADGAD) alle tunes in elkaar. Enthousiasme & strakke ritmiek – dat is Robin. Maar ook melancholie is belangrijk in zijn spel. Manon Elout betreedt het podium met haar viool, zang en poëtische teksten. Eigen expressieve nummers, spoken word en energiek vioolspel met een koerende knipoog.

Verwacht een verassende mix tussen Ierse tunes, Scandinavische muziek en new trad. Gevoelige nummers, maar ook eigen explosieve composities. Van melancholisch tot krachtig, voor alles geldt: Zolang het maar Baftig is!

CELTIC CONSTELLATION

Celtic Constellation sluit de avond af met een mix van traditionele Keltische en Scandinavische folk in moderne arrangementen. Violiste Astrid van der Niet speelt ritmisch, en in een tempo dat zelfs een raket niet bij kan houden. De warme klanken van Boet Hoitinks Ierse bouzouki laten de sterren fonkelen, en de tonen van zijn accordeon verlichten de Melkweg. Celtic Constellation speelt vrolijke polska’s en meeslepende walsen en heel fijne balfolkconstellaties. Probeer daar maar eens bij stil te blijven zitten!

Tickets, Tarieven en Voorwaarden

Je kan tickets kopen voor alleen het Bal, een Combiticket voor Bal + de Workshop vooraf, of een los ticket voor de Workshop.

Om het bal toegangkelijk te houden zijn er meerdere tarieven: Korting voor dansers die het krap hebben, Normaal voor het gangbare ticket, en Fair-Trade voor dansers die willen bijdragen aan eerlijke vergoedingen voor docenten en muzikanten.

Bij het doen van een bestelling moet je akkoord gaan met het privacybeleid en de verkoopvoorwaarden.

Let op! Als je van tevoren geen kaartje hebt besteld, betaal je contant of per QR code (iDeal, Bancontact) aan de kassa bij de deur. Later in de avond verplaatst de kassa naar de bar. Bij ons kun je helaas niet pinnen.

Fair Trade

Vind jij het belangrijk dat docenten en muzikanten eerlijk betaald worden? Wil je dat Balfolk Utrecht kwaliteit levert? Neem dan Fair Trade! Want, goede docenten en muzikanten verdienen meer dan basic theebiscuits bij hun koffie. Verleid ze naar onze events met galettes. Daarom Fair Trade. 🙂

Eten en Drinken

We hebben een garderobe waar je je spullen kunt achterlaten. Laat je spullen niet op de banken in de zaal liggen.

Er is een Potluck na de eerste band: we zetten een aantal tafels in het midden van de zaal met labetjes: vegetarisch, vegan, vis en niet-vis vlees. Hier onstaat dan een buffet van al het lekkere eten dat door deelnemers is meegenomen – wat neem jij mee? Aangezien er balfolkies zijn met allergieën (noten, gluten, lactose, garnalen etc.) is het fijn als je een ingrediëntenlijstje bij je eten wil zetten.

Vergeet niet je eigen bord, bestek en opscheplepels mee te nemen, die zijn namelijk niet aanwezig in de Moira. En het is lief als je na de potluck je eigen afval opruimt en/of weggooit; we zorgen voor een aantal vuilnisbakken.

De Moira heeft een bar waar je drankjes kunt bestellen.

Richtlijnen

Wij willen graag dat iedereen bij Balfolk zich vrij voelt om zichzelf te zijn en zich veilig voelt om aan te geven wat ze nodig hebben. We vinden het daarom belangrijk dat iedereen die naar onze bals komt op de hoogte is van een aantal richtlijnen waar we ons aan houden. Zo maken we de community voor iedereen zo veilig en fijn mogelijk. De richtlijnen voor onze bals: Dansrichtlijnen.
Alle balfolkevenementen die je op balfolk.nl kunt vinden, moeten zich in principe aan deze algemene richtlijnen houden.

Locatie

Het bal vindt plaats in de Moira, een fijne zaal in het centrum van Utrecht. Het adres is Wolvenstraat 10 (aan het einde van de Plompetorengracht). Je moet de blauwe deur hebben aan de rechterkant. Dan kom je via de trap naar beneden in de zaal.

The young blood of Dutch Balfolk are organising a ball to celebrate spring. No fewer than three bands are joining forces, so expect not only stars, elderflower and doves, but also a cosy potluck, stage crashes and crossover episodes!

VLIER

Fuelled by their combined experience in folk music from various corners of Europe, Vlier sows melodies on the dance floor that sprout into wild bourrées, spring breeze-like cercles and blossoming mazurkas. Laurens Krah (formerly of folk group Pyrolysis) has traded his accordion for the sparkling and rousing tones of the Irish bouzouki. Adriana Borger (also known from Idun’s Apples) brings mysterious drones, rhythmic trumpet strings, and swaying runs on her hurdy-gurdy. The musical foliage, Astrid van der Niet (also known from Celtic Constellation), brings moments of tranquillity with the quiet tones of the mandolin and rustles the branches with her boisterous violin sounds. Together, the musicians mainly sprout brand new melodies, but they also water traditional tunes that are still very much alive. Vlier makes the dance floor blossom: soft, wild and unforgettable.

TRIO BAFTIG

When you say Powerball, you say Baftig! Think pigeons, think tradition. Danceable and rousing tunes with guitar, violin, accordion and vocals, with a penchant for poultry. Robin, Manon and Sebastiaan share a passion for all kinds of folk music and folk dancing. Combine this with a lot of enthusiasm and BOOM – Trio Baftig was born.

Sebastiaan West (also known from Celtic Sparks) brings accordion and Irish flute to the stage and graduated from CodArts Rotterdam as a jazz pianist. From hard bop to Scottish trad, Sebastiaan has it all. Robin Tjiong writes, plays and grooves on acoustic guitar (DADGAD) all the tunes together. Enthusiasm and tight rhythms – that’s Robin. But melancholy is also important in his playing. Manon Elout takes to the stage with her violin, vocals and poetic lyrics. Her own expressive songs, spoken word and energetic violin playing with a wink.

Expect a surprising mix of Irish tunes, Scandinavian music and new trad. Sensitive songs, but also explosive compositions of their own. From melancholic to powerful, the same applies to everything: as long as it’s Baftig!

CELTIC CONSTELLATION

Celtic Constellation eill close the evening with a mix of traditional Celtic and Scandinavian folk in modern arrangements. Violinist Astrid van der Niet plays rhythmically, at a tempo that even a rocket couldn’t keep up with. The warm sounds of Boet Hoitink’s Irish bouzouki make the stars twinkle, and the tones of his accordion light up the Milky Way. Celtic Constellation plays cheerful polskas and compelling waltzes and very fine balfolk constellations. Try sitting still to that!

You can order tickets for just the Ball, a Combination ticket for the Ball + the Workshop before the ball, or a ticket for just the Workshop.

To keep the ball accessible, we have multiple price options: Korting (Discount) for dancers that are tight on money, Normaal for the regular ticket, and Fair-Trade for dancers that want to contribute to fair compenstaion for teachers and musicians.

To order a ticket you must agree to our privacy policy and registration conditions.

NB! If you have not gotten a ticket in advance, you can pay for one by cash or by QR code (iDeal, Bancontact) at the door. Later in the evening, we will move the cash register to the bar. Unfortunately, we cannot offer the option to pay by pin.

Do you think it is important that teachers and musicians are paid fairly?Do you want Balfolk Utrecht to deliver quality? Then payFair Trade! Because, good teachers and musicians deserve more than basic tea biscuits with their coffee. Seduce them to come to our events with galettes. Choose Fair Trade 🙂

Food and Drinks

We have a cloakroom where you can leave your belogings. Please do not leave them on the couches near the dancing floor.

There will be a potlock in the evening: we will put a number of tabels in the middle of the room labelled vegetarion, vegan, fish and non-fish meat. Here we’ll make a buffet of all sorts of delicious food brought by participants – what are you bringing? Since there are balfolkies with allergies (e.g. nuts, gluten, lactose, shrimp, etcetera), we would appreciate it if you could list the ingredients of your dish.

Please make sure to bring your own plate, cutlery and serving spoon, as we don’t have any of those at the Moira. Afterwards, it would be nice if you could clean up and / or throw out your own waste after the potluck.

The Moira has a bar where you can order drinks.

Guidelines

We want everyone at Balfolk to feel free to be themselves and feel safe to express their needs. We therefore think it is important that everyone who comes to our balls is aware of a number of guidelines that we adhere to. In this way we make the community as safe and pleasant as possible for everyone. The guidelines for our balls: Guidelines.
In principle, all balfolk events that you can find on balfolk.nl must adhere to these general guidelines.

Location

The ball takes place in the Moira, a nice hall in the center of Utrecht. The address is Wolvenstraat 10 (at the end of Plompetorengracht). Take the blue door on the right and go down the stairs into the hall.
